Startup Florida secures location for Tech-Creative Incubator

Startup Florida, a Venture Creation company has secured a building in the Rosemary District to launch a new breed of incubator that will focus on nurturing the technology and creative sectors in Sarasota, Florida.

"Incubators have been around for a very long time, and there are a variety of models that work. We believe Sarasota is unique and requires a different approach then perhaps a more industrial city or a city centered by a large research university." says Rich Swier, founder of Startup Florida.

"Our goal is to have a more socio-economic impact on Sarasota. We believe it is not enough to just approach the challenge of diversifying the economy and culture purely from an economic view point. We also need to build a more open social climate for entrepreneurs and the creative class."

Since its inception, Startup Florida has funded and launched multiple local technology-based companies and founded the first early-stage venture capital fund in Sarasota, Florida.

"Another critical component of changing the economic landscape, is building working public-private partnerships that are effective" adds Rich Swier. "We intend on driving this project but ultimately see this becoming a part of this city and so partnerships with local organizations will become important long-term."
